Philippines International Furniture Show 2015, includes international design stars.

I really enjoyed and was so inspired by last year’s Manila Fame and so I am looking forward to this year’s show which is happening on Friday, March 13 until March 16. Here are some info about the show and I really hope you guys could drop by to witness our fellow Filipinos’ creativity.

The Philippines International Furniture Show (PIFS,) will take place at SMX Convention Center, Manila from 13 – 16 March. This is the national industry platform for the furniture manufacturing and home décor sector, where the best of the new collections are displayed to local, regional and international buying professionals. The Filipino creative spirit has a global reputation, and this industry has a loyal and growing following among the international design community and those buying for it. Over 8,000 visitors from 70 countries are expected at the four day event for a showcase of the best Filipino interior design products PIFS is not just a furniture exhibition. It is also an industry forum for debate and discussion, a place where important global and local developments and trends are raised and analyzed. It is a complete industry event – for buyers and sellers alike.MDDThis year, PIFS has invited celebrity designers Mary McDonald and Nathan Turner to join the show. They will choose their favourite items from the exhibition and talk on the latest international design trends in a special presentation at the exhibition. A highlight of this year’s event, this is a free presentation for visitors and exhibitors that will be held at The Hub and registered visitors are welcome to attend.

McDonald is an award-winning and internationally published interior designer and author. She has been consistently ranked as one of House Beautiful magazines top 100 designers, and one of Veranda magazine’s top 25 designers. Her client list includes celebrities and socialites. Turner, is a well-known and respected furniture and accessories designer. His work has been featured on Domino, Vogue Living, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Food & Wine, and C Magazine.

With backgrounds that cover both furniture design and interior design, and as co-presenters of American reality show Million Dollar Decorators – they are surely best qualified to talk on current trends and the direction of the industry.

Renowned architect and interior designer J. Antonio Mendoza returns for his second year as creative director of PIFS. “We are delighted to welcome Mary McDonald and Nathan Turner as our special guests. They are considered to be among today’s most sought after tastemakers. They are already interested in our product and we’re certain that they will be blown away by the caliber of new design found in Philippine-made furniture at this year’s show,” he said.

These will present contemporary Filipino furniture against a backdrop of elements from the national past. This is a developing theme following the huge success of the special settings he oversaw at last year’s event. “It is our history that has given us the insight into East meets West design and allows us to communicate internationally. This is context of our creative ability,” he says.

“PIFS is the ultimate Filipino Collection. It is where we show the world, and our colleagues at home, how we interpret the latest industry trends, and in many cases, take the lead in design innovation.” said Christina Gaston, overall event chairman.” Industry pioneers and trendsetters have long been associated with Filipino design. The Campana brothers, Gaetano Pesce and Karim Rashid have all contributed to, and recognized our abilities. We are proud that such well known designers and industry leaders have been associated with our product,” she added.

Mendoza and Gaston will be supported in the organization of this year’s PIFS by the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc. (CFIF), the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines (CFIP), and the Pampanga Furniture Industries of the Philippines (PFIP).

The lineup of exhibitors this year is a list of the finest in furniture, furnishing, and lighting. Some exhibitors include Azcor Lighting, Coast Pacific, Designs Ligna, Diretso Philippines, Far East Furniture, Hein Chrispijn Metamorfose, Ito Kish, Locsin International, MCCA Industrial, Pacific Traders, and Vito Selma. For the best in local craftsmanship and international quality, the PIFS will take place from 13 – 16 March 2015, at the SMX Convention Center, Manila. 2014 Manila FAME

Last time, I was only able to have a glimpse of Manila FAME since I was dragging a bored husband and a four-month old baby with me. This time, I went alone, taking the MRT from North all the way down to South. It was very worth it considering the time saved from EDSA traffic. I wish I could stay longer though.

So, a brief view about Manila FAME:

Since 1983, Manila FAME has nurtured and promoted Philippine manufacturers and producers in the global market, consistently featuring top-quality export products and unique Philippine craftsmanship in home and fashion.

I cannot help being proud to be a Filipino while I was at the exhibit. Did you know that we have a local manufacturer that supplies baskets and rattan crafts for Pottery Barn? I love native crafts and I love it even more that I can possibly get them for much, much cheaper. Anyway, let your eyes feast on these beautiful Filipino-made export quality products.manilafame-2014-1I am in love with these colorful rattan furnitures designed by Luzon Rattan.manilafame-2014-2A. Garcia Crafts adds extra oomph to your outdoor spaces with these vibrantly colored chairs and stools. I would love to use these on my next project. Any takers? 🙂

This pale blue gray chesterfield sofa from More Than A Chair is simply adorable. One of these days, I will visit their showroom, 🙂manilafame-2014-5This Ilocos Norte booth is particularly interesting for me. I used too find Filipino antique furnitures a bit boring, probably because I was surround by lot while growing up and they just look too brown for me. I was inspired by this Ilocos Norte style infused with colors, patterns and textures. If only I had an ancestral house to decorate…manilafame-2014-6 manilafame-2014-7

I’m looking forward to the next Manila FAME on March 13-16, 2015. For more information, visit Manila FAMES’ website.

Valentine’s Arts and Crafts Fair

MadeWithLove1Hey crafty, artsy, food and wine loving readers! There will be a 3-day bazaar to be held at Pavilion 1 & 2 at the 2nd floor of LRI Design Plaza, 210 N. Garcia St. Bel-Air II, Makati from 10am to 7pm on Feb. 14 to Feb. 16, 2013. Entrance is absolutely free for the bazaar area and poetry reading events. There will be workshops that have registration fees but the organizers for those will be collecting via their websites.

This one-of-a-kind event offers a unique opportunity to “indie-preneurs” or independent artist entrepreneurs who produce hand-crafted items with little to no capital. It aims to be a venue for crafters to network, meet other sellers and offer their products with the lowest-cost rent for higher returns.

There will be over 20 concessionaires joining the event with items ranging from custom jewelry, wire art, felt and crochet products and more. There will also be food concessionaires where snacks, meals and drinks can be bought.

So please, let us support our fellow crafters and have fun at this special event! See you there!
